Wolf Moon is a tribute to SOPHIE, a trans woman and revolutionary producer who passed away in January.

She was responsible for a fundamental shift in the sound of popular music. Her infectious avant-garde surrealism is often imitated—but her own production remains instantly recognizable. In addition to releases under her own name, she was a frequent collaborator with Charli XCX. She co-produced a track for Madonna. She was the first openly trans woman to be nominated for best dance album at the Grammys. I once saw someone tweet that “SOPHIE made music that sounded like being trans feels” and I couldn’t agree more.

The track incorporates many of SOPHIE’s own samples (available as an artist pack on Splice), and pays tribute to her chaotic, complex sound.

The press release following her death stated that “True to her spirituality she had climbed up to watch the full moon and accidentally slipped and fell. She will always be here with us.” She was 34.

The moon she climbed up to see was the wolf moon, and this track is for her.
